Bisse Vieux is part of the historic irrigation network of Nendaz. Documentary evidence from 1658 confirms that the channel was already operating in the seventeenth century, although its original construction year is not known.

The seven-kilometre bisse carries water from the Printse and remains connected with irrigation of meadows and crops around Haute-Nendaz, Fey and Bieudron.

Bridges, retaining works, channels and small cascades are not incidental additions: they are the engineering that allowed a nearly level flow of water to be maintained across steep and irregular mountain terrain.
