North-Facade Doorway at Klooster Ter Apel
Caption
The north wing of Klooster Ter Apel was built during the sixteenth-century expansion of the monastery. Dutch architectural documentation records an original access doorway in the north facade dated 1560.

The surrounding brickwork shows the repeated alteration typical of a building that remained in use for centuries after the monastic community ended in 1593. Blocked openings and changed masonry preserve evidence of those successive building phases.

The surviving monastery was extensively restored in 1930–1933, when later accretions were removed and important medieval and early-modern elements were conserved.
