12th-Century St-Séverin Church amid Conthey Vineyards
Caption
The Roman Catholic Church of St-Séverin rises above the vineyards of Conthey in Valais, Switzerland, with rugged limestone ridges of the Wildhorn massif in the Bernese Alps behind it. The church preserves important Romanesque fabric from the second quarter of the 12th century (about 1125–1150), especially in its bell tower and parts of the south and east walls. Archaeological investigations accompanied a major restoration in 1989–1992.
