The H.R. Giger Museum in Gruyères is dedicated to the work of Swiss artist H.R. Giger, best known for his biomechanical designs for Ridley Scott’s 1979 film *Alien*. The museum presents paintings, sculptures, furniture and film-related works spanning Giger’s career, including material connected to *Alien* and his distinctive fusion of organic and mechanical forms.
The medieval town of Gruyères in the Swiss canton of Fribourg combines a well-preserved historic centre, cobbled streets and Gruyères Castle. In striking contrast, the town also has a strong connection with science fiction through the H.R. Giger Museum. Swiss artist H.R. Giger created the biomechanical designs that formed the visual basis for the creature and environments in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien and influenced later films in the series. Nearby, the H.R. Giger Bar continues the same distinctive biomechanical style.
